I was blessed to have found my life’s work early on.

I did my graduate work in clinical psychology at California School of Professional Psychology, then a creative hotbed of new ideas and approaches to clinical work. As my practice developed, I sought additional training in modalities that took my understanding deeper, so that I could work effectively with a wide array of challenging emotional issues.

My approach has always been to collaborate with clients to find a way of working that addresses their needs. I am interactive and openly share thoughts and suggestions with people, when appropriate. It is essential that you can feel safe in our work.

I’ve found that our therapy relationship can be powerful part of our work, so when feelings come up about me or us, it can be very helpful to learn from that.

Creative and symbolic approaches are a wonderful addition to this work. As a writer and artist, I’m attuned to possibilities for using imagery, archetypal psychology, and art practices as part of people’s therapy, when they are interested. I find working with dreams to be revelatory, often offering signposts or solutions to people’s concerns. In my San Francisco office, I have a large sand tray collection for sand tray work/play.

I have many years of experience helping people with eating disorders. I have a growing interest in working with people who are “neurodivergent.” And I am knowledgeable about cults and high-control groups, how to disengage and recover from these experiences.

I work with individuals and couples, from adolescence on through elderhood.

What to expect

I usually see people in person, but sometimes virtual sessions work better.

My fee is $225. I sometimes use a sliding scale and can sometimes use your insurance, including Medicare. I ask for 24-hour’s notice to cancel an appointment. I usually ask that you pay me weekly, but other arrangements can be made.

Sessions are about 55 minutes, and I usually see people weekly, but as with everything else, we’ll figure out what is best for you.

My voice mail number is 415-751-6948. If you’d like an appointment, please give me a call. If I don’t have any openings, I’ll try to help you find someone else to see. If you prefer email, you can send a message to aeapsyche at gmail dot com.
